Water Resource Planning and Protection
Perspective
Most of the decisions that directly shape the New England landscape are made in hundreds of municipal boards staffed by hard-working volunteers. There, actions are taken that affect the supply and quality of our drinking water, the location and intensity of new development and the protection of important habitats. The creation of more sustainable communities requires work at the grass roots to build solutions for challenging problems— sufficient water supply, stormwater runoff, water pollution, viable habitats, low impact development, maintaining working farms and forests. Developing these solutions is a community process that should be informed by science.
